About LuminAID
LuminAID makes portable solar lights that fold flat for storage and inflate when needed, which makes them useful for camping, emergency kits and disaster relief. Anna Stork and Andrea Sreshta founded the company in 2011, and it is based in Chicago. The co-founders pitched in Season 6, Episode 20, seeking $200,000 for 10% of the business. The product drew strong interest from the panel, and the founders ended up partnering with Mark Cuban. He put in the full $200,000 but for a larger 15% stake, along with the option to lead the company's next round of financing. CNBC later referred to LuminAID as backed by Cuban, which indicates the investment went ahead. The company's appeal comes from a practical design: a light that needs no batteries or outlets, weighs little and takes up almost no space until it is used. Over time it added models that also charge phones. LuminAID later became part of a larger outdoor-products company, Adventure Ready Brands, in a 2021 deal whose price was not disclosed, so this page lists it as acquired. The brand remains active under its new owner, with its own website and an Amazon storefront. For Shark Tank followers, LuminAID is an example of a founder-led product that found a buyer after its time on the show. The acquisition and the brand's current line are covered in the update below.

LuminAID Shark Tank update: is it still in business?
LuminAID makes solar-rechargeable lights that pack flat and inflate into a lantern. Anna Stork and Andrea Sreshta designed the first version in 2010 as architecture graduate students at Columbia, in response to the Haiti earthquake, and founded the company in 2011, according to Wikipedia. It is based in Chicago. Before the show it won several business plan competitions, and it received a U.S. patent for its lighting technology in 2016, Wikipedia reports. They pitched in the Season 6 episode that aired February 20, 2015. CNBC reports they asked for $200,000 for 10% and took Mark Cuban's offer of $200,000 for 15%, with an option to lead the next financing round. Wikipedia reports that all five sharks made offers. CNBC later described the company as "Mark Cuban-backed," which confirms the partnership went beyond the handshake. The company expanded from the original inflatable lantern into a line of solar lanterns, some doubling as phone chargers. In November 2021, Adventure Ready Brands announced it had acquired LuminAID; the deal was also covered by Chicago Inno. The price was not disclosed. Is LuminAID still in business? Yes, as a brand owned by Adventure Ready Brands. As of October 14, 2026, luminaid.com is live with a 2026 copyright and a product line of solar lanterns and lantern-chargers. Product specs quoted on the site, such as run times, are the maker's claims and haven't been tested by us.
