About Bantam Bagels

Bantam Bagels made bite-sized bagel balls with cream cheese baked inside. Elyse and Nick Oleksak founded the company in New York in 2013. The Oleksaks pitched in Season 6, Episode 13, hoping for $275,000 in exchange for 11% of the business. Lori Greiner agreed to the dollar amount but negotiated a much larger stake, which CNBC reported as 25%. A later Entrepreneur article gave the equity as 11%. This page goes with CNBC, since its account covers the back-and-forth on air. Greiner's retail connections paid off quickly. The partnership is best known for putting the mini bagels in Starbucks stores nationwide, which gave a small New York bakery national reach within a short time of the episode airing. The company's success led to a sale. In 2018, Lancaster Colony, through its T. Marzetti food division, acquired Bantam Bagels in a deal that included a base price and a possible performance payment. The business did not meet expectations under its new owner. In 2022, Lancaster Colony announced that it was getting out of the Bantam Bagels business and took a large write-down. The brand's website no longer loads, and this page lists the company as closed. For Shark Tank followers, Bantam Bagels is an example of a deal that succeeded on its own terms, ending in a sale for its founders, while the product did not last under corporate ownership. The acquisition terms and Lancaster's explanation for the exit are covered in the update below.

Bantam Bagels Shark Tank update: is it still in business?

Bantam Bagels makes small bagel balls filled with cream cheese. Elyse and Nick Oleksak started it in New York and pitched in Season 6, in an episode that aired January 9, 2015. CNBC reported that they hoped to get $275,000 for 11% of the business and that Lori Greiner negotiated up to 25%. A 2024 Entrepreneur article gives the stake as 11%. We use CNBC's figure because it describes the negotiation. The deal led to a big retail win. CNBC reported in 2016 that, with Greiner's help, the company got its bagels into Starbucks stores nationwide. CNBC also reported that sales had grown from about $200,000 before the show to more than $2 million a year later. In 2018, Lancaster Colony said in a statement filed with the SEC that its T. Marzetti subsidiary had acquired Bantam Bagels for a base price of $34 million plus a possible performance-based earn-out. In May 2022, Lancaster Colony said in its quarterly earnings release, filed with the SEC, that "based on the financial underperformance of the business, with no foreseeable path to profitability," it had decided to exit the Bantam Bagels business, and it took a $22.7 million restructuring and impairment charge. Just-Food also reported the decision. Is Bantam Bagels still in business? No. Its owner, Lancaster Colony, said in 2022 that it was exiting the business, and bantambagels.com did not load when we checked on October 14, 2026.
